Biography

Edward has over 20 years’ experience in design and management of Quality Management programs focusing on Maternal and Newborn Health, HIV (focusing on HIV Prevention programming; PEPFAR 95:95:95 goals and PMTCT), and WASH programs. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health, Master of Science in Project Management and he is an ISQua Expert.
Edward is a well-trained Improvement Advisor trained by Associates in Process Improvement (API) in association with Institute for Healthcare Improvement. He played a big role in design of Quality of Care network in Malawi and also development of QoC training curriculum for Quality Management in Malawi. Edward participated in adaptation of WHO Quality of Care standards to suit Malawian context and Conducted QoC assessments for 43 health facilities in Malawi using WHO MNH standards. He was opted as Expert member in development of Quality of Care Network indicators for Paediatric Health at World Health Organization in November 2018 and has been involved in the validation process the indicators.
He is well experienced in managing Quality Improvement Interventions, and Monitoring & Evaluation. Before becoming Executive Director of USIA, he worked as Director of Programs at MaiKhanda Trust for 15 years. He has extensive experience in managing and implementation of Quality Improvement through Learning platforms e.g., IHI Breakthrough Series adapted to both community and health facility collaborative. He has excellent project management skills, QI coaching skills, QI teaching skills, and analytical skills enabling him to deliver projects on time and efficiently. Edward believes in teamwork and continuously helps other team members to build their technical capacity. He has excellent scientific writing skills, is an effective communicator, and has splendid presentation skills (presented QI work in over 15 International Healthcare Quality and Safety Forums).
