Biography

Charles Merrick has worked in top management positions for over twenty years as a CEO, Director of Finance & Administration, Financial Controller, Auditor and Company Secretary. During these years he has attained good experience in organizational management, accounting and finance, human resource management, corporate taxation, training and facilitation of workshops. His experience extends to business stakeholder engagements. He has had frequent engagements with various government departments and regulators, constant interaction with financial institutions being both local and international banks, resolving tax issues with tax authorities and supporting external auditors on annual audits. He has had hands on experience in coordination of annual work programs, formulation of annual budgets, and preparation and presentation of financial statements.
Some of the work that Charles has done is setting up organizational management of Malawi Institute of Tourism (MIT), a training entity which transitioned from a government unit to a commercial entity where he was the CEO. He also computerized the accounting system and strengthened the accounting operating framework. He also did the same at Tea Research Foundation where he also computerized the accounting system and improved the accounting environment.
Charles has done consultancy work in both public and private sectors carrying out a broad range of services within finance, organizational management, investments and tourism. These have been done in Malawi and in most countries in SADC region and East Africa. As a consultant he has developed strategic plans, undertaken investment appraisals, conducted functional reviews, developed communication strategies, appraised development frameworks for tourism departments amongst many other services.
Charles is a graduate of the University of Stirling in Scotland with a Master of Business Administration (Finance). He has a Diploma in Business Studies from the University of Malawi and a certificate in Organization Research Management from the University of Arkansas in the USA.
